March 2009 Greens Committee Report:

BUDGET:

Golf Shop income/expenses are approximately $7K under budget. Golf Course Maintenance income/expenses are approximately $18.7K under budget.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

Since the February report we have:

-       Added 2 annual members.

-       Continued to experience increased play from both members and guests.

For instance;

This past Friday we had 64 members of the Seniors Couples participate in their weekly tournament. On Saturday we had 57 MGA members participate in their monthly tournament.    (Both are recent records for participation in each group)

The weekly Friday Hat game and Saturday Dog Fight have seen recent gains also.

-       Both courses have been re-rated by the Alabama Golf Association (AGA).

The Forest course was measured on Monday March 9. Senior Men’s (TEAL) tees were added at 5,450 yards.

The AGA rating crew was here on Friday March 13 and re-rated both courses. We now have 3 sets of rated men’s tees on the Forest Course and two sets on the Lake Course. AGA rating results are expected soon.

We plan to commence play from the Teal tees tomorrow. The golf shop staff will collect score cards for the next several weeks to assist in determining the proper distribution of strokes for handicap purposes. When this process is completed updated score cards will be made available for use.

MAINTENANCE:

-       Since the February report Derrick’s crew has taken down another 10 trees and cleaned the wooded area to the right of #5 green.

-       The demolition of the old shop is well underway. Another couple of days of clean up will see this completed.

-       We had an outbreak of CURVULARIA (fungus) on the greens this week due in part to slow growth, low night time temperatures and excess moisture from rain and dew. The greens were treated Wednesday afternoon and will receive a follow up treatment next week.

Both temporary storage trailers are on site.

-       We have received 2 fairway mowers, a greens mower, a sod cutter and a buffalo blower on the new lease. We will receive a rough mower and at least two other pieces of equipment next week. The rest of the leased equipment will be received as needed and as we can accommodate it. (The equipment lift and grinder will not be needed until after the new building is completed).

None of the above as well as continuing work on all our facilities would have been possible without the professional leadership of our General Manager, Controller, Course Superintendant and their staff. Well done and keep up the good work.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Because of the economy and other factors we are beginning to see more consolidation in the golf industry.

Craft Farms in Foley has been sold to Honours Golf, owner of Rock Creek, Kelly Plantation and other courses along the coast.

The Wharf will likely be going public (probably with limited tee times) at around $50/round. The Wharf is owned by AIG!

Glen Lakes in Foley has recently been bought by Textron, Inc., owner of E-Z Go golf carts.
