June Yard of the Month

Yard of the Month
Paul and Karen Deterding
149 Hope Drive (Rolling Hill & Hope Drive)

This month's Yard is a two-story home on Hope Drive, blooming with summer annuals and perennial beds.  The variety bright flowers caught our eye.  The Deterding's have several flower beds alive with Palms, impatients, lantana, petunias and Gerbera daisies.  The corner bed shows off a Sago Palm and Cassia bushes and below there are daylillies, phlox, mums, geraniums and a beautiful rose bush. Even the mailbox is surrounded by petunias. As you walk up the driveway you' ll notice Tradescantia (Wandering Jew), yellow Lantana and Azaleas.  The front walk is bordered by a hedge of  Boxwood and leads you to the front porch where you will find a well planter filled with Petunias and Snapdragons.  Another Cassia finishes off the corner.  We truly enjoyed the wonderful color of the flowers across the front lawn.  It is apparent that Paul spends a lot of time with his choice of plants.   As you drive by, notice the orange tree on the side of the house. We don't see many of them in this area.  It was planted about five years ago and now yields many glasses of fresh squeezed Vitamin C.  Once again proving that if you dare to plant something a little different, with a little love and attention, you will reap the rewards.  The Deterdings have lived in the Lake Forest area for 12 years. Many thanks again for sharing your yard with all of us in the community. The Lake Forest Garden Club will award a Gift Certificate from Home Depot in appreciation.
