Daphne High School's Marching Band Has Award Winning Year


Daphne High School's "Sound of the Eastern Shore" Marching Band won numerous top awards this year with their show entitled "Anyway The Wind Blows".   This season's show features three popular hit selections -- "Free,"  "Bohemian Rhapsody", and "In The Stone."  

On October 15th, the DHS marching band traveled to competition at Crestview High School, FL, rating Superior in all four categories - Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band.  In addition Daphne High School was awarded the Best in Contest Drum Major Award, the Best In Class Band Award, and ranked 3rd place band overall in the contest.

On October 22nd, the band traveled to competition at Andalusia, AL, again rating Superior in all four categories - Drum Major, Color Guard, Percussion, and Band.  This time, Daphne High School was awarded the Best in Class Drum Major, Best in Class Color Guard, Best in Class Percussion, and Best in Class Band.

On October 29th, the band traveled to the Pride of the Valley Contest at Pinson Valley High School, AL, and received all Superior ratings.  Daphne's band brought home Best in Class Drum Major, Best in Class Percussion, Best in Class Band, and the highest award attainable entitled "The Chief of the Valley" (Best in the Contest Award).

The Sound of the Eastern Shore Marching Band finished their contest tour at The Gulf Coast Showcase of Champions held at Tate High School in Pensacola, Florida, on November 5th.  During preliminaries, the band was awarded the Best in Class Visual Award as well as the Best in Class Band Award.  During finals, the band ranked 4th overall in the entire contest following close behind the 3rd place spot by only .10 of a point.

Daphne High School's marching band consists of 145 total members.  This year's student band council is Daniel Free, Band Captain; Jennifer Ames, Drum Major; Glenn Zuercher, Senior Representative; Briana Smith, Junior Representative; Peyton Moss, Sophomore Representative; Jena Dimoff and Ben White, 1st Lieutenants; Ryan Davis, 2nd Lieutenant; Katy Jo Tunks, Secretary; Margaret Trione, Guard Captain; Tina Patterson, Guard Captain over Weapons; and Taylor Strassner, Guard Captain over Flags.

The band's Section Leaders are Jana Baker, Martha Miles, Jena Dimoff, and Christine Merchant over Piccolos; Christie Bradley, Anna Isenhower, Abby Adams, and Olivia Sanchez over Clarinets; Michele Szedlemayer, Ben Hafner, Charlie Young, and Daniel Brown over Saxophones; Chrys Lake over Mellophones; Glenn Zuercher and Kevin Ward over Trumpets; Daniel Free and Ryan Davis over Trombones; Neil Secor and Brian Smith over Baritones; Chad Perkins over Tubas; Zach Webb is Percussion Captain; Seth Noble over Snares; Owen Gates over Tenors; and Robbie Doughan is section leader over the Pit Ensemble. 
 
During Parent Preview at the beginning of the school year, Band Director Rick Faison told band parents he felt this year's show was a good one and he wanted to see his students were proud they were at Daphne High School.  Middle School Band students who will be attending Daphne High School are invited to join the Daphne High School "Sound of the Eastern Shore" band programs.   Visit the Daphne High School Band Website at
