DAPHNE POLICE ANTICIPATE THE OPENING OF NORTH PRECINCT BUILDING
The Daphne Police Department is pleased to announce the opening of it’s newest office soon.
Police Chief David Carpenter stated that the new office is scheduled to be open near the end of December or early Jan 2006. “The uniformed Patrol Division will then move in to this office and the patrol shifts will conduct shift change there on the north end of the city and in the heart of Daphne’s business area. Citizens will likely see a lot of police cars coming and going around the Home Depot / Hobby Lobby area with the opening of the Melvin Johnson North Precinct building. This will be a good deterrent against crime, and will be good for community policing as the business owners and customers will see an increase in police cars through the area”.
Citizens who live on the north end of the city and especially in Lake Forest can access this new office instead of driving to the Police Department’s Justice Center on the south end of town. The building is located between The Home Depot and Hobby Lobby and is named in honor of Retired Daphne police officer Melvin Johnson. The station will be manned during regular business hours Mon-Friday but you can still have a police officer meet you there by using a direct phone line that will be the lobby of the precinct that is answered at the Justice Center.
Capt Scott Taylor, who heads up the uniformed and plain clothes divisions of the police department, stated that “This precinct will be a great asset to the police department and to the citizens of this city. The services that will be available at the precinct are: filing police reports, requesting vehicle unlocks, jump starting vehicles, or any other of the services that the police normally provide. You can fill out close patrol forms for your house or business. You can also pick up SR-13 forms for motor vehicle accidents, victim’s rights forms, domestic violence literature and many other helpful forms, any time, day or night. Police assistance will be available at this precinct at all times. However, this will only be a precinct, not a fully operational police station. Therefore, you will still need to go the Joseph H. Hall Justice Center to get copies of accident reports or any other police reports, to meet with a detective, or to meet with the court magistrates. When this precinct is operational, you can contact it by calling 621-9100".
The Daphne Police Department, the City of Daphne, and the AIG Baker Company have worked hard to bring this police precinct to the Jubilee Square shopping center. |
